As general planners for the entire parking facility at the former CVAG depot in Kappel – directly adjacent to the garage campus – we are responsible not only for planning the new roofing, but also for the associated recreational areas, outdoor facilities, and track planning for the Schönau route. This comprehensive task illustrates the complexity and significance of the project.
The new roofing for the parking area and open space, which will also be used as an event venue for the garage campus and the tram museum, is currently taking shape. As part of the project, a modern steel truss structure with photovoltaic modules and glazing is being built here. A special feature of the construction are the truss girders arranged in the roof structure offset from the supports, which are suspended via secondary trusses and tie rods.
With a length of 36 m, a width of 18.8 m, and a height of 9.8 m, the roofing will soon be a striking architectural element in the cityscape.
The facility is needed for the daily parking of up to five CVAG trams, which mainly operate on the Schönau line and, strategically, also on the line to Reichenbrand. It replaces the parking facility at the Schönau turning point, which has been out of service since 2016 and was dismantled as part of the renovation work on the Schönau line.
