Re-Opening EHB-Campus

04 June 2024

Last week, a significant milestone was reached in the 120-year history of the Evangelische Hochschule Berlin (EHB): the ceremonial reopening of the campus following a comprehensive energy-efficient renovation of the listed building ensemble. After years of intensive planning and construction work, the campus now shines in new splendor and at the same time sets a strong example for sustainability and monument preservation. The modernization and optimization of energy efficiency measures has not only preserved the historic building fabric, but has also made a significant contribution to climate protection. The energy requirements of the buildings have been reduced by 60 - 70%, which corresponds to a saving of 738 tons of CO2 per year, or around 100 single-family homes.

In House F, the complete dismantling of the Audimax roof also proved to be a challenging structural “open-heart surgery”, the restoration of which was met with appreciative applause in the Audimax following an impressive visual presentation by our architect Detlef.

The event, which was attended by high-profile speakers such as Dr. Christian Stäblein, Bishop of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia, Berlin Senators Ina Czyborra and Ute Bonde and the District Mayor of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Maren Schellenberg, paid tribute to the successful implementation of this important project.
