Joy in Hamburg:
After a construction period of just under eleven months, the new building of the Hamburg railway station mission has been inaugurated. The new building, for which iproplan® is responsible for the general planning, will significantly improve the local assistance and support options from March 2023. The location was also a challenge in terms of planning.
As the first point of contact for those in need of help, the Hamburg railway station mission had been located in the west wing of the main railway station since 1992, before the rooms there became so in need of renovation that the facility initially had to be temporarily housed in containers in 2018. A new building was urgently needed, but the location on the busy station forecourt and all its conditions offered great planning challenges at the same time. In cooperation with the renowned Hamburg architect Carsten Roth for the façade planning, it was possible to create a new building that meets the environmental requirements on site as well as the special needs of the users. The modular timber construction also enabled a relatively short construction time.
With the move into the new building, the working conditions for the staff and the quality of stay for those seeking help at the station mission have improved in equal measure: The new building offers around 400 square metres of space, more than twice as much as before. Another new feature for the station mission is the establishment of its own hygiene centre with an emergency care area, where severely impaired guests and those in need of assistance can be comprehensively cared for. The final work on the interior and exterior is currently underway before the station mission will fully commence operations in the new premises in March 2023.
