Outstanding project reaches milestone: Siemens Campus Erlangen opened

18 January 2023

Just in time for the turn of the year, Siemens officially opened its new company location in Erlangen. The highly ambitious project, in which iproplan® was commissioned with the general planning for the first eight multifunctional office buildings in Module 1, is one of the largest real estate projects Siemens has ever realised worldwide with a total area of 540,000 square metres.

Challenging pilot project according to iproplan® BIM standard

On the former research site, a complex new district for Erlangen is still being built into the 2030s, which is to combine modern and highly flexible working and leisure worlds in a unique way. It is no surprise that this maximum flexibility will only be possible with digital support. Therefore, digital processes and Building Information Modelling (BIM) were deliberately used in planning and construction: The iproplan® planning team, which at times numbered more than 100, worked in digital, high-performance data models of the campus from the very beginning. It was particularly challenging not only to ensure the multifunctionality of the various buildings and to reconcile this with the wishes and needs of the different users, but also to create a resilient, digital template for all subsequent modules with Module 1 as a pilot project. We are proud that we have succeeded in this. With the consistent use of digital building models in planning, construction and operation, the Siemens Campus in Erlangen is a real, future-oriented showcase project.
