As part of the modernization of the energy infrastructure in Chemnitz, eins energie will have the 225-metre-high chimney at the Altchemnitz heating plant demolished from 2 September 2024. The concrete giant, which has shaped the cityscape of Chemnitz since 1973, will no longer be needed due to the new engine cogeneration plants in Altchemnitz and Furth, which will be commissioned in 2023.
We at iproplan® are an essential part of the project. Our comprehensive expertise comes into play in the following areas:
1. building pollutant investigation
2. approval and tender planning
3. construction supervision
A particular highlight of this project is the use of a special spider-like excavator with a hydraulic hammer, which is removing the 225-metre-high chimney piece by piece from the top downwards. To minimize the impact on the surrounding area, the excavator is electrically powered and special dust-reducing processes are used. The demolition work will take place from Monday to Saturday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and is scheduled to last around a year.
To inform residents and interested parties about the progress of the project, the infrastructure service provider eins is holding an information event.
